The logo of Global Prophetic Alliance (and before that, Glasgow Prophetic Centre) is a stylised lion, usually represented in purple.
In 2009 the founders chose this image because of its associations with Scotland, the country where the ministry began and continues to have its base, and also because of the biblical allusions to Jesus Christ being the lion of the tribe of Judah.
Lion Rampant
The lion image is in the heraldic form called 'lion rampant', which means it is standing up (on its hind legs), facing right (described as if you are holding a shield with the design on it) and roaring. The 'lion rampant' is traditionally associated with the Stuart line of kings in Scotland and is sometimes seen flying at sporting occasions in red and yellow colours (legally, citizens are not allowed to fly this flag - its use is reserved for the sole use of the Sovereign - but this law from 1672 is rarely enforced!).
Jesus the Lion
The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ and in the book of Revelation we read of Jesus being described as a lion:
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
You can do a fun Bible study on why Jesus is called name this by the elder. Some key verses to help you get started are: Genesis 49:9; Isaiah 11:1-10 (a prophecy of the future Messiah who will be in the line of King David); Romans 15:12; Hebrews 7:14; and Revelation 3:21.
The Lion has Roared!
One of our favourite verses in Scripture, that helps frame the vision of the Global Prophetic Alliance ('revealing the voice of God to the nations'), is found in the book of Amos:
Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. The lion has roared — who will not fear? The Sovereign Lord has spoken — who can but prophesy? Amos 3:7-8
So that's why we love the roaring lion!
Purple Royalty
We use a lot of purple in our designs and logos. Purple is usually a colour associated with royalty and, as representatives of the King of Kings, we think this is quite appropriate.
Demon Dragons
From time to time people ask us if the logo is a dragon, a demon, a monster, or another spiritual creature. It's not. It's a lion. Anyone who is familiar with the ministry of GPA will know well that we believe that Jesus Christ (and He alone!) liberates captives from demonic bondage and we are experienced in deliverance ministry and spiritual warfare.
Also, King Robert the Bruce (who first flew the red and yellow 'lion rampant' royal standard) was not a particularly nice fellow (by most historical accounts). Our ministry logo is in NO WAY meant to refer to him, or honour him.
It's Just a Logo
Symbols, icons, and images are important but they're not that important (as long as they don't become idols!). At the end of the day, it's just a simple logo to help people quickly identify us in print and online. 😀
